Concept Development: Mazda was looking for an armrest to fit their small Mazda 2 hatchback. We replied with concepts using our 'Pelikan' armrest top. The 'Pelikan' is a standard part which is mounting to many different vehicles by developing a unique armrest base. The Base would be designed to fit the OE Center Console. The one criteria that Mazda specificed was the requirement to keep the rear cup holder. Below and above you will see the various proposals to integrate the cupholder and attached to the center console.
Design Change: After many iterations and quoting the various concepts, Mazda decided that to keep the Armrest within budget the rear cupholder requirement was not feasible.

Final Design and Approval: To prove out the mounting concept and fit to the console we had a rapid prototype created. The Pelikan was attached to the base and the model was sent to the customer. Mazda was very happy with the design and signed off the drawings so we could begin production of the tools.
