Scion FR-S:
Center Console Armrest
Initial Proposal:
We were asked to quote on a Armrest for the new Scion FR-S. The intial proposal from the customer was very basic: A center console mounted armrest which slides and 'locks' into 3x positions. The "top" must be able to move entirely out of the way so the customer has access to the cup holder.
Concept Development:
First to be finalized is the visual a-surface of the Armrest and Top. Shown below is a sketch rendering of the proposed design direction. Next step is to develop all of the understructure and slide mechanism.
Installation Instructions:
Detailed Instructions and templates were created for both Dealer and Plant install. Below is a sample of the illustration completed for these documents.
2D Drawings:
Before we could get sign off from the customer, 2D Drawings had to be completed.
Production Parts:
With the Installation procedure defined, the productions parts fit to the vehicle perfectly. The below pictures show the final Armrest installed on on the vehicle.
3D CAD:
All mounting and bracketry CAD was created by myself, while the visual A-Surface was created by Polytec's lead CAD engineer, Gregory Shpringer.
